Siblings
Our house is filled with chaos! With a 3 1/2 year old and a 21 month old, who could expect any different? There is constant bickering. Someone is always taking someone else's toy or someone is touching or chasing. We cannot go 5 minutes without shouts of "Mine" from both little mouths. But lately, there has been more and more positive interaction. The older Avery gets, the more willing Peyton is to include her in his activities.
Nothing makes my soul happier than when my kids get along and look out for each other. Peyton likes to have someone go downstairs with him to get his clothes in the mornings. I would like him to exercise some independence so I often tell him he needs to go by himself. One day he said, "Can I ask Avery to go with me?" He asked her and off they went. "Will you 'printect' me Avery?" Peyton asked. "Ahuh!" Peyton will also often ask Avery what is the matter if she is crying and make sure she is ok when she gets hurt.
The other day, I was doing something in the kitchen and I turned around to see Peyton pulling Avery in the laundry basket. She would, in turn, to pull him. It made me so happy.
Finally, this week I took Peyton and Avery to Mayo Back Up child care. They separate the children by age, Peyton in the preschool room and Avery in the toddler room. When we got home, they were inseparable. Peyton verbalized that he loves Avery and missed her while they were at school.
I am so grateful for sibling relationships. I hope they will continue to build on their friendship and that they will continue to love and support each other throughout their lives. I am also grateful that we have the opportunity to have another little bug to add to the chaos and beauty of our lives and I know Peyton and Avery will love this little one so much.
