Potty Training Take 1

Potty Training Take 1=FAIL

Peyton has been showing interest in using the potty off and on for the past couple months so I thought we should go for it.  Especially since we have a life change coming soon.  I wanted it to be over and done.  On 1/10 I brought out the "big boy pants" and Peyton wanted them.  He was willing to take the diaper off and didn't want the diaper back on. So on 1/13 we went for it.

The day started off great.  I got Peyton out of bed, put him on the potty, he went and we put the "underwares" on.  I put him on the potty every 20 minutes.  There was absolutely no control or consistency.  At one point he sat on the pot for a 1/2 hour.  Then he started having accidents.  At one point it was time to try going again and he tried to run away, peeing on the kitchen table in the process.  (No worries, I sanitized.)  After a few more undie accidents I decided to let him go naked.  I wanted to see if it would upset him to get all wet.  Not so.  He whizzed all over a little chair we have and then put his hands in it and proclaimed with a huge smile "I washing my hands".  That's when I decided to claim defeat with the help of my mom who assured me, it was ok if Peyton was not ready. We put the diaper back on and he didn't even care.

I was never mad or frustrated at P. I was more exhausted and sad to admit that I was wrong...Peyton was nowhere near ready.   Oh well.  We spent the rest of the day sharing popcorn and watching movies.  We'll give this potty thing a shot this summer.

Luke was 3.5 before he potty trained. We tried a few times before that and failed. One morning he decided he needed to go potty in the toilet and that was it...he was potty trained! It really makes all the difference when they're ready! Who knows what makes them decide they're ready. Good luck! Potty training has been the hardest thing for me so far! Sounds like you handled it much better than I did!

Potty training can be so stressful and hard... great job giving it a try and not getting frustrated. I agree with the comment above... when the child chooses to use the potty and they tell you they want to where underwear THEN IT IS GO TIME! So many people stress over it and if they would just let their kid decide then it would be SO much easier!
