Here's to 2014
2014 did not start out well for the Watts family but as a good friend told me recently, things can only get better and she has been right.
We brought in the New Year watching Iron Man 3 with a screaming sick baby who finally fell asleep on Dad. I think he held her until about 12:30. I, however, went to bed at 9:30 to prepare for the next shift. We had to hold Avery so she would sleep for many nights. It was super frustrating. I am so grateful I have a husband who can sleep that way because I cannot.
Now I thought Avery being sick was tough...then Peyton got the illness. What do you get when you cross a needy, high maintenance boy with a terrible cold? A whinny, even more needy boy. Oh! It was awful. He would cry out for a "nose wipe" every 20 minutes in the night. And every time he needed a nose wipe you would think the world was ending!
We were cooped up for a week and then the polar temperatures came to Rochester. We're talking wind chills as low as -58! Nuts. Cold is an understatement. I went out to see if bubbles freeze...they don't, or maybe it just wasn't cold enough when I went out. I have never felt such a cold in my life and I don't want to again....I want to move!
THEN our water softener broke and our dyer wasn't working. The repairman came for the softener...all fixed. I called Sears to have a repairman come out to look at the dryer. I had an appointment and no one showed. So the next day I scheduled online to avoid the workers who could careless about you. Around 2:30 I thought, "I need to double check the appointment and make sure someone is really coming." The appointment was made for a week out. So I called...the soonest they could get someone out was like 4 days away! Earlier that morning I had seen a local appliance repair van driving around and I happened to stumble upon their web page which had a picture of the van. The guy gave me some suggestions and said if it didn't work to call back. My dryer is fixed, no repairman needed. I truly believe that it was a tender mercy from the Lord that the Sears thing didn't work out. We would have paid $80 for nothing.
We have so much to look forward to this year including a rotation in Baltimore, living 1 hour and 15 minutes from the Karrasch's, seeing my friend Alexandra back east, trips to ID and NV, 6 years of marriage and more. Here's to a happy 2014!
