Granny
This week my grandma had a massive stroke.
The news hit like a ton of bricks. I second my brother's reaction:
"Not my grandma."
Granny has always been energetic, feisty, stubborn, active, fun.
She likes movies, reading romance novels, music, shopping, traveling...
She walks daily, swims multiple times a week and is always on some kind of silly diet.
Did I mention she is 78!
She's the healthiest person I know!
I talked to Grandma just a little over a week before all hell broke loose.
I had a monterous dragonfly on my deck.
She told me to "swat it" :)
I feel so lucky and blessed to have grown up close to my grandparents.
We spent every holiday there. We were in the same ward. I spent many nights there with my cousins and then as a teenager when my parents would go out of town I spent the night there alone.
We ate popcorn, watched chickflicks, ate rolled ice cream, went shopping, went to movies, played "Oh Hell!", went to town, and she was at all the sporting events and major life events she could be at. We went camping, listened to music, and she let me wear her makeup. And about a year before Chad and I moved, we visited my grandparents once a week, at least. I know they enjoyed it but those visits mean so much to me.
I can think of so many funny stories about Grandma.
That's what I like to think about now as we hope and pray for Granny.
I am going "home" in less than a week. Grandpa told me today that things won't be the same. I know that's true. I know I will not find the same Granny I grew up with but I know things will be ok. Grandma is amazing! That has been manifest her whole life and we continue to see that through the many people who have visited her. She is loved.
Today I asked my mom to hold the phone up to her ear so I could say hi and tell her I love her. Mom asked her to squeeze her hand if she could hear me talking and she did. I hope she could hear me.
Love you Grandma, we'll be there soon!
