It's True!!!

This weekend I had the opportunity to spend some time with the Tongan people of Reno. A good friend of mine came home from his mission in Japan and they had a dance on Saturday night and then he spoke in church today. I LOVE the Tongan people and the Tongan Ward. The people are very nice and welcoming. They treat you like you have known them forever and like you are their family. Will's father came up to me and shook my hand and told me how nice it was that I was there to support his son. People I had never met did the same. It was wonderful. I love the ward so much because the people speak, say the sacrament prays, pray and sing in their native language. They sing the same hymns we do but there is such a powerful witness when hearing them sung in another language. Their singing is so beautiful and so powerful. It's wonderful to know that no matter what culture/place to venture to the church is the same and it's true. I think everyone needs to experience the church from a different cultural persepctive than their own.

I also found a fantastic quote in a book I'm reading called God Wants A Powerful People by Sheri Dew (thank you for giving it to us Kelli) It says:

"True followers pray. They have some kind of regular pattern of scripture study. They don't "find time" to go to the temple, they set it as a priority first and work other things around it. They welcome the oppertunity to fast as a regular way of humbling themselves, putting God first, seeking answers to prayers, adn strengthening thir connection to the Lord...Elements of devotion are woven into their daily life rather than something done on Sunday or sporatically when needed."

Finally, just a little update...Chad is doing well. (1 week down 8 to go which means 9 weeks till Christmas!!!) He is enjoying the surgery rotation so far and he's adjusting to staying up all night long when he has to be on call...major adjustment...if you don't know Chad gets pretty delierious when he's tired!! So we are doing well. Hope everyone else is doing well too! :) Have a great week.
